Concluding the Civil Aviation Legal Advisers Forum's work Hosted by the Sultanate of Oman for 3 days
The Civil Aviation Legal Advisers Forum, which was hosted by the Sultanate of Oman through the Civil Aviation Authority and in collaboration with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for three days (21-23 February 2023 AD) under the auspices of H.E. Dr. Abdullah Mohammed Said Al Saidi, Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs, has concluded its work today.
In its second edition, this forum aimed to provide a platform for legal advisors to exchange expertise, experiences, and perspectives on legal issues in the field of civil aviation, as well as to discuss the challenges confronting the states parties, potential aspects of cooperation, and proposed solutions to address the challenges arising from technical, social, and economic development.
The Civil Aviation Authority launched a slogan to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Sultanate of Oman's accession to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), which embodies the achievements made during the fifty years since the Sultanate of Oman joined the International Civil Aviation Organization.
Furthermore, the Civil Aviation Authority and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) signed the Management Services Agreement in order to ensure compliance with the highest civil aviation safety standards.
The forum featured four civil aviation discussion sessions, as well as a special youth session for young people aimed at listening to their views and inquiries about international civil aviation concerns and inspiring them to pursue careers in this field as the next generation of aviation professionals.
In addition to a dialogue session divided into five groups of international legal advisors, which were represented in a number of axes, namely: the key topics that should be raised in the meetings of the organization in international legal affairs, the legal competence of the framework within the corridors of civil aviation authorities, as well as the assistance that countries around the world require to ratify the conventions, treaties and protocols, which should be among its mandatory legal acts, and assisting the organization in applying these standards within the countries of the world.
The Forum also focused on discussing matters of major significance in the international civil aviation sector that will be highlighted within the operations of the organization's competent departments.
The forum was accompanied by a Tech Expo, in which a number of aviation-related organizations participated, and another Craft Exhibition aimed at supporting SMEs and introducing the Sultanate of Oman's traditional cultural heritage and the most prominent handicraft businesses.
The foreign delegation attending the forum also paid visits to a number of legislative institutions, including the Consultative Assembly of Oman, the State Council, the Shura Council, and the Supreme Court in Bausher, as well as other tourism hotspots in the Governorate of Muscat.
In conclusion, H.E. Eng. Abdenbi Manar, Director General of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization, gave a speech on the sustainability of the air carriage sector, in which he stated that the global aviation industry is aligned with the United Nations Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development. He mentioned that according to studies, the global air transport industry plays a crucial role in supporting sustainable development goals, particularly those related to poverty eradication, by assisting airlines in retaining employees and preventing labor turnover from the civil aviation sector, as well as eliminating hunger by ensuring that air carriers continue to carry out air cargo flights to provide humanitarian aid to areas affected by natural disasters.
His Excellency the Director General of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization stressed that the Sultanate of Oman's hosting of this event confirms its eagerness to support the efforts of the international community, whilst also supporting the implementation of the ICAO Assembly decisions, enhancing continuous focus, and sharing knowledge, expertise, and viewpoints, in accordance with the guidelines of the organization's governance bodies.
