Oman hosts "ICAO Security Week 2024" and a High-Level Ministerial Segment this December

The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), is hosting the "ICAO Security Week 2024" and the High-Level Ministerial Segment in cooperation with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). This global event is being held for the first time outside the organization's headquarters in Montreal, Canada. More than 600 participants from various ICAO member states, international organizations and bodies, Ministers of Transport, and Presidents of civil aviation authorities will participate in the event held from 9th to 12th December 2024 at Oman Convention and Exhibition Center.

The event agenda includes several panel discussions addressing critical topics such as aviation cybersecurity and protecting aviation infrastructure from security threats. The discussions will also highlight the importance of balancing security and sustainability in the aviation sector. The event will bring together civil aviation ministers and presidents of civil aviation authorities from around the world to discuss how to enhance international coordination to address growing security challenges.

The High-Level Ministerial Segment will be held on 11 December 2024 as part of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Security Week 2024. The Ministerial Meeting forms an important step towards setting global security priorities in the aviation sector ahead of the forty-second session of the General Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in September 2025. This Meeting is considered a strategic platform to discuss current security challenges and develop innovative solutions that ensure a secure future for civil aviation globally.

A youth session will also be held under the theme "Youth Empowerment: Achieving Gender Balance in Aviation Security." The session will shed light on the role of youth in enhancing aviation security, discuss the challenges facing women in the sector, and review success stories and inspiring models that contribute to making a significant change in the aviation field. The session will also focus on the importance of gender balance in the aviation industry, with practical recommendations to enhance their participation in this vital sector.

Aviation Security Week 2024 will conclude with tours for participants, allowing them to explore Oman's most prominent historical and cultural landmarks, including a visit to Nizwa Souq and Fort and the Oman Across Ages Museum in Al Dakhiliya, Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, Al Alam Palace and Muttrah Souq in Muscat. These events reinforce Oman's perception as an integrated destination that blends technological progress with a rich history.

The Sultanate of Oman's hosting of the "ICAO Security Week 2024" and the high-level ministerial meeting is essential to strengthening its international position in civil aviation. It reflects the Sultanate's commitment to achieving its vision of enhancing security and safety in this vital sector, especially considering the challenges imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic on the aviation industry. It is hoped that this event will enhance international cooperation and exchange experiences among the member states of the Civil Aviation Organization. This contributes to a secure and sustainable future for the sector regionally and globally.
