Under the Friends of Oman Meteorology initiative, launched by the Civil Aviation Authority in 2023 to support weather enthusiasts, the "Weather Observation Basics" workshop will begin tomorrow, Wednesday, with the participation of active weather enthusiasts from various groups.

The workshop will cover key topics such as an overview of the meteorological observation system in the Sultanate of Oman, techniques for encoding and decoding observation data, and practical training on reading data from weather observation stations. Participants will also learn how to analyze surface weather maps, upper atmospheric layers, and weather forecasting methods, including the early warning system for tsunamis.

In addition to theoretical sessions, participants will engage in hands-on activities, such as launching a weather balloon, analyzing local and global numerical forecasts, and using remote sensing technologies via satellites and radar. A weather simulation exercise will also be conducted, allowing participants to apply their new skills in real-time scenarios.

This workshop is part of the Civil Aviation Authority's ongoing efforts to engage and empower weather enthusiasts, enhancing their meteorological knowledge and skills.
