With the Participation of 24 Weather Enthusiasts, Launch of the Basic Meteorology Workshop
The "Basic Meteorology" training workshop kicked off today with the participation of 24 weather enthusiasts from various weather groups. Organized by the Civil Aviation Authority as part of the “Friends of Oman Meteorology” initiative, the workshop aims to expand participants’ knowledge and understanding of meteorological fundamentals and weather analysis techniques.
The workshop covered Oman’s meteorological system, the methods of encoding and decoding meteorological data, and training on weather station readings. Participants also engaged in surface weather map analysis, upper air layer studies, weather forecasting processes, and the early warning system for tsunamis.
Attendees took part in practical exercises such as weather map analysis, working with the early warning system, and applying both local and global numerical models. They also gained practical experience in tasks such as launching a weather balloon and simulating various weather scenarios, further enhancing their theoretical and practical expertise.
This workshop is part of the “Friends of Oman Meteorology” initiative, which continues the Civil Aviation Authority’s commitment to engaging and empowering weather enthusiasts, helping to build their capabilities in meteorology. Additionally, the authority plans to expand the initiative in the future to attract more participants.
