The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is the governing body responsible for regulating and overseeing meteorological services in the Sultanate of Oman. It provides accurate and reliable weather information across the country, utilising the latest technologies and tools to monitor weather conditions and forecast climate patterns. This enhances preparedness for weather changes and helps mitigate associated risks.
Since Oman joined the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in 1970, the CAA has become part of a global network dedicated to exchanging climate data and contributing to scientific research aimed at improving weather forecasts. This international cooperation has significantly enhanced the quality of meteorological services in the Sultanate, ensuring precise reports that support timely and informed decision-making.
A key pillar of Oman’s early warning system is the National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Centre, established in 2015. The centre continuously monitors weather conditions and provides accurate warnings to the public about potentially hazardous phenomena such as thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and flash floods. Its role is crucial in delivering precise data that minimises the impact of natural disasters, safeguarding lives and property, and enhancing rapid and effective emergency response capabilities.
The Civil Aviation Authority remains committed to advancing its capabilities to ensure public safety and strengthen preparedness for various climate challenges.
